The presentation will discuss the key principles of a ‘systems ecology’ approach for the resilient design and planning of our built environment. It will be illustrated by the design and built work of the speaker. Presented will be: the various patterns for greening as the biointegration of biota with built systems inorganic mass, the idea of our built environment designed as ‘constructed ecosystems’, the systemic integration and enhancement of biodiversity by establishing ‘biodiversity targets’ of selected native species with designed habitats, discussion on green design and planning as the biointegration of sets of ecoinfrastructures (ecology and ecosystems, human societal acts and behaviour, water management, built human-made systems and artifacts).
